PC crashes after move

Following a recent move, PC would randomly crash (shutdown). After running Iobit Adv Sys Care Pro, PC became more stable but would still randomly crash. Installed new PSU after new case fan stopped running and system seemed stable but would freeze up when opening iTunes. Decided to install new hard drive and fresh install of XP. Now during windows update, computer will occasionally freeze or generate a stop code 0xc0000005 (0x7c902abc 0x0053dea8) and 0xc0000005 (9033e6 0x006ae2e4).

Does anyone know what these codes mean and how I can test for a bad mobo, video card or dimm ? So far I've not purchased any parts. I'd prefer to fix if less than $100; Otherwise I'm looking at a new build. Ps. (Bios and Windows loads with no problem)

Asus A7N8X Deluxe, AMD Athlon 3200, 1 gig pc3200, Radeon 9800, wireless NIC.

    Thanks

If this is all happening simply after moving house then it's possible one or more of your hardware items have dissplaced.

Shut down and unplug your PC, then hit the power button to disscharge the board.
Touch your fingers on the PSU or case frame to disscharge yourself.

Remove and reseat the RAM checking for dust and dirt.
Make sure the Ram is seated firmly and correctly.

Check all power and connector cables, make sure tey are all seated correctly.

Visually check if your CPU heat sink is still locked in place.

It sounds like a hardware issue of some kind, IMO most likey RAM.

Good ideas. CPU was running hot (100 F) so I changed out CPU cooler with better model but temp hasn't changed. Still same situation. I was hoping the BSoD codes might tell me for sure it's a RAM problem.

100F (37.7C) is not hot for a CPU, thats a normal operating temp. I used to have a 3400 that ran at 64C (147F), THAT was too hot, but it still ran for well over a year like that.

I'd be looking more at the RAM, if you don't have any luck with just reseating it then you might want to consider trying another stick.
You have 1gb of RAM, if it's 2 x 512MB sticks then try them 1 at a time. It may be that 1 of them is bad.
So try this if you have 2 sticks:

    Remove both.
Place 1 in the first slot.
Place the same one in second slot.

    Repeat with other stick.

    Post results.

Also, when it shuts down without the BSOD, do you get any delay from loos of visual to power down?
Do you notice any screen flickering or Artifacting (graphical glitches such as red/pink boxes or lines)

use memtest86 to do the RAM testing. Let it do several passes.

Re: PC crashes after move - Solved

Thanks guys for the great suggestions. A more knowledgeable (than me) friend of mine was in town and offered to look at the PC. He immediately concurred that it was probably the RAM; but after studying the mobo he realized the capacitors were swollen and leaking.

He told me that around the time this mobo was made (~6 years ago?) many manufacturers were supplied with large mobo capacitors that were prone to leak and fail. He seemed to believe we were fortunate the mobo lasted this long.

It was a good system while it lasted. About time for a new build anyway.

Oftenly the best way with these older PC's.
