    Hello everyone.

Just wondering if anyone could shed some light about my pc crashing frequently when I install the full 2 gig ram. It started out with 256MB and now I've tried expanding to the full 2 gigs with DIMMs I bought from ebay.

At first, I thought the hardware was defective but when I ran "memtest" they both passed with either one of them on either slot. Once, they both passed with the both of them on, but when I booted up from the HD, my pc froze again a few moments after I went online.

I've been surfing without a hitch for about more than a day now on the DIMM I thought was bad at first. I'm running just 1Gig right now and I can still feel the difference over the 256MB I started with. I just wish I could run both modules for peak performance.

BTW, I have an e-machines T3304, if that helps.

Thanks in advance for the info.

Likely to be a bad slot on the motherboard; I've seen cases where Memtest will pass RAM that is without a doubt, bad. But in this case, I think you are looking at a bad DIMM. Be sure to switch the sticks of RAM into different slots to determine if only one of them is the culprit.

A bit more info please. What OS do you have? What RAM modules did you buy? and anything else that maybe of use.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I wanted to reply to the first one immediately but for some reason I couldn't get back into the forums right away.

Ok, I have Windows XP, AMD 2.01 GHz. I've read somewhere that my pc runs at 1600MHz on the FSB or something like that. Just wondering what good that's supposed to do since my memory's stuck at 400MHz (pc3200) anyway. The ram (2 x 1 Gigabyte) I bought from Ebay have "AUM" etched onto the chips.

As stated in my earlier post, I noticed my pc starting to freeze regularly after installing the modules. I ran "memtest" and was notified my ram failed test #6at what I perceived as the very end of my ram, i.e., 1999MB something or thereabouts. So I promptly removed the module from slot #2 and re-ran the test with just the one module. My pc passed this second test, and I even got to surf the net for about half an hour without a problem. I then removed the currently installed module (#1), moved it to the 2nd slot and re-installed the other module (#2) into the 1st slot and ran the test a 3rd time. This time my pc passed with both modules running, but as soon as I rebooted and went online, it froze again. I have since removed module #1 from slot #2, and am currently running 1 module (#2, slot 1) and haven't had a problem. Based on these results, I am thinking it might be a m/b problem rather than a ram module problem. Next step for me to try would be to run module #1 in slot #2 and see if that confirms it.
