PC dead - what to do

    Hi,

Yesterday my PC suddenly died on me - no warning, it just switched itself off and won't turn back on again. I've checked the cable fuse, opened the box and can't see any signs of damage anywhere, and would appreciate any advice on the best sequence of things to do next.

I'm hoping it's just the PSU that's gone, and that I can simply replace that, but if that doesn't work I'm unsure about how much more I should replace in one fell swoop - my system is old enough that a new mobo wouldn't be likely to be compatible with my CPU. If anyone has any useful suggestions I'd be glad to hear them.

    Cheers.

It does sound like your PSU has 'gone south' and the main concern is...did it take anything else with it? The only way I can think of to find out is with a new PSU. I know there are some other people on this forum that can give you a broader outlook, but that is the only thing I can suggest.

Thanks Stubby. I't's time for an upgrade anyway, so I'll probably replace the PSU, mobo and CPU and hope the rest of the old stuff still works.
