   I removed a lot of unwanted programs with it but it didn't free up any hdd space. Does it remove all of the files associated with a program? or does it just get rid of what gets loaded in memory?

   It removes programs and any associated files. Just be aware that a lot of that is crapware that is pre-loaded but not necessarily installed yet. So it's not going to free up much hard drive space.
