PC doesn't turn on!

Pressed the switch, and nothing.
Did a test with a paperclip to green and black wires in power connector, and fan worked.
Connected it back to board and had only, and nothing.
Any ideas how to further interrogate, or online guides, though difficult reading up on this on my phone.
Like the challenge of sorting this myself.

 

I second plodr's suggestion.

 

No access to a spare psu, and to much hassle TBH.
Took it to repair shop, and after a full service the diagnosis was excessive dust build up!
An expensive clean, but I wouldn't have sussed that, and its a good check up.

Too much dust? That is a bit odd. For one, since you did the paper clip test, I assumed you would have seen all the dust and cleaned it out - or at least mentioned it and for sure, plodr or would have suggesting cleaning it out.

But even so, normally if full of dust, it will still boot - but it will soon overheat and then give you heat related problems. Unless that is, the CPU fan was so caked and burdened down with dust it would not spin up to speed.
