Hi, my problem started about a month ago and only happened occasionally, it is now becoming a pain.
What happens is that, when I go to 'Save' something, the PC hangs and the display dims to about 50% brightness. If I go away , have a coffee and come back, the problem has cleared. Sometimes, if I click on something, nothing happens and when I click again, the problem occurs.
This happens with all programs so it looks like a Windows problem.
    Please can you help???:confused

    Thanks JoeRay,
I am running Windows 7 Pro, using AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ at 3Ghz, with 4Gb RAM. I use MYInternet Security. Graphics - NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT
    Windows updates on AutoUpdate
I recently installed REVO uninstaller and used it to clear all my redundant C++ files (2008)

If I right click 'Start', I get the choice of 'Properties' or 'Open Windows Explorer', not a 'System' in sight. Control Panel doesn't help either.

I have completed sfc /scsnnow, I have gone as far as takeown /f, but havenut run this yet. I have found the corrupted files, they are in two places, one batch in the middle, and one batch right at the end.
I have copied these files into 'a pdf file. what next? I'm afraid that it's beginning to look like a foreign language to me...

    First, JoeRay12, let me thank you for your help, it is really appreciated. I would find it helpful if you could tell me what the various parts of the statement mean. From immediately after the word 'info', for example in the following;

2015-06-10 12:03:20, Info CSI 0000053a [SR] Cannot repair member file [l:66{33}]"telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.json" of Microsoft-Windows-Unified-Telemetry-Client, Version = 6.1.7601.18839, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, hash mismatch

This is one of the files which I take to be 'telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.json'

and what is the difference between 'Cannot repair member file' and Could not reproject corrupted file'
How much of the whole statement do I need?
    :-o

BIG MISTAKE. You might need several versions of C++.
    Here's one source: https://askleo.com/do_i_need_these_microsoft_visual_c_redistributables/

You might have broken some programs by removing c++ versions and that's the reason for the problems.

Me again, sorry about this but I think I'm beginning to understand what is happening.
However, I have my installation Disc, but I cannot see where the original copies of the corrupted files are. The instructions on the last link you sent me finish before any mention of replacing files from my OS disc.I AM getting there but, at 78, I need a little coaxing. Thanks again

    Hi Plodr,
Thanks for your help. I had multiple versions of C++ 2005, 2008 and 2010 and I removed the duplicated versions.
The problem existed long before I did this.

On in depth perusal of these files, it seems that there are, in actual fact, only two, with multiple repeats. Fortunately or not, they are both .json files.
So ignoring these files, we have a scan which didn't show up any drastic errors.
What can we try next please?
Thanks to JoeRay12 and Plodr for their patience with this elderly muppet.

Thanks again JoeRay12 and Plodr. I have learned something this afternoon, because of you!

Having rang Fred Langa's blurb, I am about to do an 'upgrade'. I hope that this will cure the problem.

Thanks again and stay well, be happy!
