PC FROZEN after SpySheriff infection!!!

My PC is dead!

It was infected with SPYSHERIFF (i've been to that thread, but have been sent here!). I cannot follow the spyware thread, as my computer has 'frozen/locked'. There is no start button to > RUN type: msconfig.
There is no 'My Computer' to right-click. I cannot use F8 to try and boot in Safemode! The Safemode screen appears but only the 'Start Normally' option is highlighted and I cannot use the up/down arrow keys to go up to the Safemode option as they don't respond. I have to use the 'OFF ' button to swithch off.
If I let the computer start as normal, the spyware kicks in and I have the problems I stated in that thread!!!
AMD Athlon64 3200. 1024 mb DDR RAM. 400GB hard Drive. DVD drive.CD Drive.
Anyone with any ideas?

Will running the repair only put me in a postition of being able to do SpySheriff (also known as SpywareNo) Removal thread (http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=65945)?

If it's possible to get rid of SpySheriff, will my data files etc still be on the PC? or hopefully recoverable?
I have a 'reload' cd that came supplied with my system. When I put the cd in while booting up, an option to restore to the original set up is possible, but that will mean loosing all my data etc. If possible I would like to save it all!!!
