PC is so slow, it hurts.

Hi all, I posted in here last week about a pc that I'm attempting to clean up. I found and removed quite a bit of malware/spyware/trojans. It's getting there but I'm sure there are some things left to clean up on it. I've been following the read and run first guide, and I'm at the point where I need to connect my network cable and run the online scans, but the internet on this thing is gawd awful slow. I have a broadband connection, so it shouldn't be slow at all, but on that machine it literally takes 3 or 4 minutes to bring up the website for panda software. What would cause this thing to be so sluggish. When I look in task manager, the only suspicious thing I find is that there are 3 svchost.exe's running and the one owned by SYSTEM never falls below 30% cpu usage and holds 21,416K of memory usage. There is also a process called stem that seems to consistantly hold alot of the cpu as well. I have a recent hijack log if that would help, but does anyone have any thoughts on this before I post it?

3 svchost.exe is pretty normal (I have 6 running right now but normally about 3). Process explorer is a lot better than "task manager" and will allow to easily find where the file is stored. You could try to update the ethernet driver! In XP look within the device manager and find the network card manufacturer and goto their site and DL the latest drivers and install.
