Pc Locks And Freezes..!

I am posting here from malware forum, having checked for infections.

It was suggested I clarify the following areas:

* Is boot up slow? - no
* Is shutdown slow? - no
* Is browsing/surfing slow? - yes sometimes Edge locks and crashes with locked cursor
* Is downloading slow? - no
* Is running any application? - not sure what refers to, although probs are not helped when running Office 19
* Is it also slow in safe boot mode? - not tried that as yet
* Also are any process showing in Task Manager to be using a lot of CPU time? - none seen
* Anything else slow? - sometimes locks up with hour glass even just opening something like file manager

You were asked to clarify this..... so why not?

 

Does this happen on all sites?
Does this happen with other browsers?

 

Browsers rely heavily on a graphics solution. Booting to Windows, not so much.

An update, done clean install of Windows 10 in the end, and all good so far..!

If this ever happens again, one thing to try is shutting down startups. From Windows taskbar search, type msconfig. Open msconfig->startups and uncheck them all->Reboot. Now one at a time reactivate them and reboot to see if one of them was/is causing your slow downs.

Startups can cause problems if they become corrupted or are just poorly optimized or written. Just went through this on one PC that was starting up slowly. Think ShadowDefender was the problem, and PC is just fine now...
