pc locks up when I down load a file?

I need some help! My pc(ibm laptop) locks up when I download certain files off of AOL. I think it is mostly PDF files. My partner is also having the same problem. The download starts, and then the system just times out, and forces me to "end task" to get out of the download.
Any Ideas?

Do you use Acrobat Reader?
If so, does it plug into your browser?

If yes, have you tried re-installing Acrobat Reader?

In the future, you will get the best support posting your problems in the appropriate technical forum. I would have recommended the 'Software' forum for this.

 

Thanks. I will try that, but I is also happening(I believe) with other file downloads, like zip files. Also my partners laptop is having the same problem? Thanks for responding. I am new to this site, and will post to the correct forum in the future.
