pc not connecting to the net

just back from the m8's and he cannot get his puter online , his laptop is workin fine but its the desktop that isny connecting to the net , basically a jist removed all the unwanted stuff usin add and remove in xp like games ,programs he never used , now a never checked the pc was on line before a started but the m8 said he used it this morning, i tried usin ff ,ie , safari and not 1 would connect but wen a checked the pc connection it said it was fine , anybody any ideas :confused
