Hey,my brother's xp pc keeps gettin really hot on top where psu u, and starts running slower (obviously( as it gets hotter. We did a full dust clean on the whole thing due to this issue also reseated cpu and cpu heatsink incase paste had dried out. the pc still gets overly hot that he has to run a desk fan DIRECTLY into the pc to cool it down, it won't play W.o.W properly anymore he now gets 2fps instead of the 12-16fps in heavy population areas. the usb's on the front get so hot that they'v actually KILLED a usb pen ..fried it completely. I'm starting to come to the end of what i can think of.
    he has a
    pentium4 3.2Ghz.
    2gb ram
    Nvidia Geforce 7300gt agp gfx
    450w psu
Help! he's resorted to using my pc :(

You say you have cleaned out the dust so next download everest and it will give you the temps so that you can see which is overheating.

I am not familiar with your GPU but if it has a built in fan you will be able to make it run faster with EVGA.

If you are still overheating you need ti install another fan in the case to get a better airflow.

cool i'll go install everest on his machine, he has cpu heatsink, back case fan and a side case fan. the gpu has built in fan unsure bout EVGA or not will check that also. will post back with results.

looks like his cpu heatsink is buggered AGAIN! this is the 2nd on since april! the cpu is practically frying.. 78-83degrees c fan only goin like 2722RPM.is a basica Akasa socket 755 cpu fan. can i speed tht up maybe?

how do u get it to change the speeds ? bit confusing

I'm guessing the program is telling me his cpu, gpu and aux and core are all overheating as has flames. otherwise no cluse how to adjust anything.

When you open Speedfan first click cofigure and then about half way down you will see fan speeds with small up and down arrows next to each fan just click those to alter the speed.

ok well according to the prgram they are all on 100%

Well with EVGA you can speed up the GPU fan and i think the best thing is if you can get a fan at the front of the case to suck air in and create a crossflow from front to back (i assume the rear fan is extracting) the side fan will help but you need a good air flow accross the case.
If you look at the temps on the picture i posted you will see that mine are high but i am running a heavy graphics program 24/7 so with the warm weather and the heat generated from the GPU/CPU it's a constant battle for me.

As you can see i have put my GPU fan too max.
All you need to do is click on AUTO on the right untill the light goes out and the click on the small button on the bar and slide it to the right untill you have the speed you want then click apply and you should hear the fan pick up speed.

ok, well whilst awaiting reply i took another look in case, checking all connections of fans to parts they cooling. looks like a cpu fan clip is playing up, one corner isnt/wont clip in so guessin no amount of fan adjustment will cure that only a new fan itself. but will deffo try crossflow front to back he has a non fucntioning front fan(well for now he does)

Well that could be the culprit, do fit the largest fan that will sit good in the case. larger fans move more volume at lower speeds so the noise is reduced.
    Good Luck.

Thanks Bill, told him to get saving. (I ain't funding repairs after paying and conducting build in first place last year)
