How is it going in the lounge area?

A week ago My local computer store installed a wireless connection for the hotspot I bought, works good. I asked him why does it take so long for icons to appear after I click on one. He told me to bring it back and he would clean it up to be faster. When I click on any icon it takes 25-40 seconds to appear, is there anything at MG I can use instead of packing the pc down to his store again? I run xp on my desk top.

    Thanks

    Hi

What hardware did the store install as in the make and name of the hardware if you know?

Is your Windows XP at Service Pack 3?
Check in Device Manager for any items with a yellow ! mark and name any that do?

When you say "icons to appear" do you mean when you click an icon the software that's associated with the icon takes a while to load/open up and does this happen with all software or just some (please name 1 or 2 software applications that happens with)?

If you boot into safe mode (F8 at boot and choose safe mode with networking, so you get the internet) do the icons or software still take a while to load/open?

What security software do you have installed, please name all security software you have installed?

None have a yellow mark, they all have + signs.

and does this happen with all software or just some (please name 1 or 2 software applications that happens with)? Microsoft works, email shortcut,AVG 2014, Superantispyware,Advanced System Care, Malwarebytes Antimalware.

If you boot into safe mode (F8 at boot and choose safe mode with networking, so you get the internet) do the icons or software still take a while to load/open? NO, each one opens within 5 seconds.

What security software do you have installed, please name all security software you have installed? Above are the security software I have. Are they ok?

    Hi Roger

Laura nudged me a little to revisit this.

OK so Safe Mode seems to have traced an issues to a startup application you have, sadly its a long winded approach to find out what one is the cause, but can you attach the log from the info below and I maybe able to work out what startup could be causing the slowness.

His instructions did not state 'set up', they said 'startup':

Please do not start another thread on this topic. Keep everything in here. Any other threads started will be deleted. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Also, as I've stated, David gets very busy at work and is sometimes only here on weekends when he can manage. If he is not back, hopefully someone else can help you out.

    Hello David,

    EXCELLENT, I got it now.
    I clicked tools > startup > save.
Now to attach my log to my thread, Ive read the "How to:" but do I copy them and send them all or just 5 at a time?

-When you get into your Ccleaner startup list, you should see 'Save as a Text' file.
    -Click that.
-You will have a screen open up. Note where it is saving the file to (if you haven't already). -Once you have saved it, come back here, click on Post Reply button.
-When you have that opened up, you should see a paperclip icon.
    -Click on that.
-Browse your computer to find the file. If you have more than one file you can attach 5 at a time.
-Once you have all your files attached, click Upload.
-When its done uploading you can close that screen. Submit your reply and you should be good.

Your start-ups list shows that you are running two anti-virus programs, AVG and Nod32.
    • Yes HKLM:Run AVG_UI AVG Technologies CZ, s.r.o. "C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG2014\avgui.exe" /TRAYONLY
    • Yes HKLM:Run egui ESET "C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET NOD32 Antivirus\egui.exe" /hide /waitservice
If you do have both installed, then one of them needs to be uninstalled. Which one do you want to keep?
There's some other unnecessary programs listed that can be disabled, but for the time being it's best to sort out which AV you want running.

    Hi Roger

Try AppRemover and see if it finds your nod32 install and remove it, other than that we many need to manually seek the components out.

Also run as you have installed no CCleaner and its registry option and run the cleaner until nothing is found.

I will come back to your Startups later on as you have way too many and they can slow a PC down, so let me look at what you have and slim the list down as to what you can delete/disable from startup

What screen are you referring to? Perhaps you could take some screenshots of what you are seeing and attach them to your post.

    Hi Roger

Sorry about the reply time, life and work gets in the way at times....

But to look at your startups you need to remove a few and the below are what I would do.

    Advanced SystemCare 7
    AWC
ctfmon.exe (this run this to remove http://www.gerhard-schlager.at/en/projects/ctfmonremover/)
    GoogleToolbarNotifier
    msmsgs Microsoft Corporation
    AlcxMonitor
    GameChannel WildTangent
    GoogleQuickSearchBox
    HPBootOp
    HPWuSchd2
    IObit Malware Fighter
    ISUSPM InstallShield Software Corporation
    ISUSPM Startup InstallShield Software Corporation
    lsburnwatcher
OEdmn_6 Iconix, Inc. (no idea what this is! in relation to email or needed for Outlook Express)
    realsched
    Rundll32
    SiSPower
    SSBkgdupdate
    TkBellExe
    Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk

Deleting these from startup may help your PC run quicker and delete via CCleaner > Tools > Startup option

Then tell us how your PC is running, better or same?

@rabboni...Please be sure to read the entire post when asking for help. I've quoted David's post and put his directions on how you are to delete the startups in red bold font.
