PC protection!

what i'd like to know is, is there any software that hides your ip address from view? like how do i make myself completely anoumous when on kazaa or just going to any website. I fear that i'll be busted for kazaa music sharing or something like that i'm kinda paranoid i know but i'd like to know i'm safe.

and no its not a sicko porn fear or anything like that just music.

i've got the typical windows firewall running, and black ice also.

Hmmm as long as they are not copyrighted files it is completely legal....

an IP address is the only way you can receive information via the net
There are anonomizer(sp?) services but I am not aware of anything free...

I am sure someone here will have a good suggestion.

 

No such thing, they have to have your IP to send it to you, you can use a SOCKS proxy but it will probably be traced back to you anyway, even with a dyn IP there's not such thing as a dyn MAC.

 

Ok, for starters, totally agree with Vlad902. But, you could check out this site for further information. www.lockdowncorp.com on using stealth Proxies.

Secondly, your choice of firewalls needs to be improved. XP Firewall and Blackice do not stop outbound connections of your applications, services etc - very exploitable. Highly recommend Kerio Personal Firewall 2.1.4, or at least Zonealarm Pro(latest version of course). The choice will depend on your level of expertise. If you are not comfortable with creating a tight set of rules, then go for Zonealarm Pro - used it for a while, but find Kerio much better for creating tight rulesets.

Oh, even though I said the MAC thing with the SOCKS proxy, Jabman is right, use a proxy (in this case, SOCKS), look online for a legal one, as their uptime is long, legal, and fast

 

there are MANY sites to do this, whoever said there is no such thing doesn' know what they are saying,... here are 2 that are FREE. No software to install, just gol to their site and enter the site you want to go to. It hides your IP and it workds trust me.

Three things:

1.) These WEBSITES are HTTP proxies and you can't use them for KaZaa (too bad, there are THOUSANDS on the net, mostly NT4 boxes running old IIS that's misconfigured), you can't use those, you need a special type of proxy, SOCKS.

2.) It hides your IP, not your MAC.

3.) Proxy logs.


Bassicly all legal proxies will usually keep logs, even though you may want to resort to illegal ones for reasons, I will not encourage illegal activity.
