Hiya. I read the post from another user in here and I'm having similar problems. My computer is randomly restarting. Its only happened a few times and I've gone through tons of scans to see if it was spyware or not and I've been in the spyware specific forum and they think its a hardware or possible software problem, so I came here. My boyfriend said its restarted a couple times on him but I don't know how far back that goes because he "forgot" to tell me when it happened. It happened tonight when I was online and when it restarted and got back online I found I had lost all of my bookmarks. Like I said I read through the other post a bit but wasn't quite sure what to do. Thanks in advance for help.
it wont let me attach the aida32 report with my system specs because it was attached in a thread in the spyware specific forum... http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=79982

I've never heard of spyware causing a computer to randomly shut down. Although through that thread we did go through some things that might be the cause.

However, your computer displayed signs of data loss......

perhaps your spyware sweeper deleted something it wasnt supposed to. (program file perhaps.) But unless your computer takes a rapid turn for the worse, I'd suspect some hardware problem.

    Some simple things to check

    1. Run a full computer virus scan
    2. turn off power to the computer and check your cables and slots for loose or dirty connections.
    3. It may be a heat issue. Some computers will shut down when the computers tempature rises too much and conductivity is lost. Make sure dust is cleaned from the heat sinks and all and maybe feel the air comming off your mounted fans.

Unless something has returned it shouldnt be malware related.

okay no virus was found. There is cool air flow at the back of the computer, it feels cool to the touch as well, it was a bit dusty so I cleaned it out best as I could. You said perhaps it was something spy sweeper deleted so I was going to attach the file from the session of all the stuff it deleted and quarantined but its already attached in this thread... http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=79379

If you have any other suggestions I'd be greatful cuz Im totally at a loss for what to do. Thank you.

I havn't ever seen SpySweeper remove favorites or anything legit. Personally I don't think that has anything to do with this. In my office just this week, I have replaced approx. 5 HDD in computers that did this same thing and it turned out to be the HDD, something to build on. Good Luck!

Is it shutting down or rebooting? (I haven't read any previous posts or links)

Also, go to Start, run and type in sysdm.cpl then OK.

On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery.

Under System Failure, uncheck Automatically Restart then apply.

    Hi,
I have run across ppl with similar problems. Here is the crux of what I gathered.

    1.
For a laptop, more often that not, it is due to overheating, and more often than not, it is the case if the computer just goes dead all of a sudden without telling you that it is going to reboot or give you like a countdown window till reboot.

To see if that is the case, try lifting your laptop up in the air, or putting it on top of two spaced books to lift it from the table so that there is air space beneath it, specially underneath where the fan inlets are.

If that is indeed is the case, it might be due to your power system getting less power to the fan system, or due the fan system getting old and not running properly. To solve it, you can either try buying one of those cooling pads or changing the fan in the laptop itself.

    2.
If the computer gives you like a one minute warning with countdown that it is going to reboot, it can be due to a bot installing a program in your computer by exploiting a security flaw in Microsoft Windows. If you had beed good about getting all the security fixes microsoft puts online, or had a good firewall running all the time in your system you wouldnt have had that problem. There is a lot that can be done in that case to solve the problem and I'm ready to help you through that 5f that 5s the case.

    Let me know your situation

its not a laptop for one and no its not giving a 1 minute warning.

Its rebooting, I last time it happened I was online and it restarted and when I got back online all of my bookmarks had been erased.
