I am having a problem running a new game. Everytime I launch the game, my PC reboots. After several attempts to solve the problem with tech support, I was told by the company that made the game that it was not a software problem, but hardware. I bought a new graphics card just for this game(all other games run fine). I also upgraded my power supply to run the new card. My PC specs pass all requirements to run the game perfectly. I tried new drivers and rolled back the drivers for the graphics card; tried selective startup to free up system resources before I launched the game; have the latest DirectX ...same problem, PC reboots on game launch...any help would be much appreciated...thx

Right click on "My computer", Select properties. Go to the advanced tab, under "startup and recovery", press the "settings" button.

Here, you need to uncheck the "automatically reboot.,....".

Once this is unchecked, go ahead and run the game. Press OK, OK. The computer should stop at a blue screen of death. We need this info to check what your issue is. :)

On a second thought, perhaps it could be a ram issue also.

I'd double check your ram using this tool:

Does this happen with all games, or just this one?

What OS are ye running (xp, 2k, 98, etc)
What was the old video card, ye were running?

Does the game require web access?

Try this ...as a temp start / run / type "services.msc" without qoutes ..then stop or change the indexing service to manual.

Or go back to the other graphics card.

Just for an experiment, Uninstall IE7. Does the game function then?

after I put in the CD and the launcher comes up, I click "run SCDA", then another box comes up, I click "Single Player"...cursor turns to a "disk", runs for about 10 secs, turns back to a "pointer", then monitor goes black and PC reboots

Multi player runs but not single player???? We need a gamer in here ....somebody go get one ......when did you install IE7?

  21. theefool

    theefool Geekified

IE7 is an automatic update. If one presses the "don't install" button, IE7, moves to the optional updates.

  22. severn8212

probably when the update came out

For an experiment. IE7 is known to break a few games.

I'd HIGHLY recommend uninstalling it, to see if it fixes your issue.

Also, when you upgraded your computer, was IE7 installed at that time?

IE7 at work runs great, if not using HP printers, but then, there is a "workaround" to fix this issue (HP issues).. :)

You can always re-install IE7 at a later date. But, have you tried uninstalling IE7, and seeing if your game works?

  31. severn8212

    severn8212 Private E-2

    no I haven't tried it

@theefool ...IE7 fresh out of beta ....had to go into a neighbors office and remove it from her system cause it locked her up .....In that office, they run norton, which could be a partial cause ...however ...all was peachy when it was uninstalled.

@Severn ....kill it!!! Kill it now!!! Kill it good ...leave now survivors ...let it go back to IE6 ....

Did you run CCleaner after you uninstalled IE7, as with most programs IE leaves stuff behind in the registry which maybe causing your continued problems after IE7 uninstall..........I had to use Regseeker to get rid of even more left behind by IE7, than CCleaner would get rid of..........Both are available here at MG CCleaner http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4191 Remember the registry cleaner is the ICON "Issues" and make sure you use the back-up feature........ RegSeeker http://majorgeeks.com/RegSeeker_d2579.html Make sure the Back-up box is checked, and only delete the Green items to start, then look for any that refer to IE7 they maybe in red, but are okay to delete...............Us appropriate caution with Regseeker it is powerful and with improper knowledge can cause irreversible registry damage. Hope that helps severn8212

Okay you guys talk behind the "Old Farts" back see if I care.............Dang I must be getting slow like Timmie;) :D
