PC reboots when told to shut down

    PC always reboots when told to shutdown. Any Ideas?

    XP SP2
    Dual Core D950, 3.4MHz

    Could be crashing. Have you got it set to restart in the event of an error. If so, a blue screen might only show very briefly.

    No, I have checked this setting and it is not set to automatically restart on system failure.

    I have also disconnected all the usb devices as I read that this could be a problem but this didn't work either.

    I've searched the windows site but to no avail... is there anything else I should check?

    when did the problem start? have you installed any new software, updates, etc.? a few more details please.

    i'm not saying this is your problem.

    my cousin's comp did the same thing. recently i was helping my cousin with his comp, majorly infected with malware/viruses, etc. we worked on it for a while, and about 2 days later he called me and said it would finally shut down like it was supposed to. he always had to manually shut it down (ie - power switch).

    have you tried ctr+alt+del, and selecting shutdown from there? i would think it would be the same thing? g/l - sos
