I have Windows XP, Norton 2007 is my AntiVirus. My problem is that my PC shots down completely every time that I try to either run a full virus scan or to perform a Disk Cleanup. I tried to perform a system scan through Microsoft web site but the whole thing shots off. When I try to turn the computer back on I have to try 2 or 3 times because it shots down by itself while starting.

My computer IQ is 0, I have no idea what to do. Please help. Can anyone shine some light my way, please? :(

    Thank You in advance!! :wave

Could be that your hard drive is crashing or has become corrupt. Go to the hard drive manufacturer's web site and download the free diagnostic tool. ALL drive makers have 'em. You can find out the maker of the drive by right click on My Computer > Properties > Hardware tab > Device Manager > click plus sign next to Disk Drives. If it doesn't show a company name, just Google the model number from the Device Manager and you'll get the maker's web site from there. If the model number starts with WD it's made by Western Digital, an H usually means Hitachi, ST is usually Seagate... you get the idea. Run the diagnostic according to the instructions. Many of these tools also provide the option to repair any problems found (I know Hitachi's Fitness Test does). You can also try: boot to your Windows XP CD and at the first place it asks you to make a choice, choose 'R' for the Recovery Console. When in the Rec. Console, type 'chkdsk /r' without the quotes. More info about chkdsk is available here:
