PC Shuts down

Asus 1gb En9400 GT Video Card

I was playing World of Warcraft and the computer started to smell like it was overheating, and there was more heat than usual blowing out of the PSU fan. So i shut it down and let it cool off for a couple hours and came back to turn it on. It started to boot up and it got to the desktop and just shutdown. The power light was still on so i held the power button in to turn it off to restart it and when I went to restart it, it didn't start. The light off in back was off also, no fans running.

I let it sit and read on here to discharge it so I unplugged it, held in the power button released, and plugged it back in, the light in back turned on so i figured that was a good sign, went to turn the power on, it was on for a second and then shutdown again. I tried it once more was on for a few seconds and then shutdown.

I not sure where to go from here.

 

Sounds like the power supply is toasted, what with the smell and hot air. How dirty is it inside? That can shorten the supply's life.

 

I agree most likely it's gone.You could try and clean out the power supply with a air hose or a air can see if that works be cause if you dont keep the power supply clean that will go first most of the time.
