Pc Shutting Down During Gaming

    Hello all,
For some reason my pc will shut down while I am playing SWTOR. No blue screen or anything like that. It just shuts itself off.

For a moment I thought Id alleviated the issue by updating my drivers. But the problem has returned,

I suspected that the video card was over heating. (Its pretty cramped in there.) So I added an additional slot fan. (the only thing I could add to the case) The problem remains.

I thought the power supply might be an issue as well, but all of the important info on my fan seems to not be in English. So i am uncertain of its capacity atm.

I am uploading a dxdiag, everest report and a picture of info on my fans.

Any help offered would be greatly appreciated.

    Okay found power supply information

    Okay
So after I found the PS info I replaced the power supply with an Ultra lsp 650w PS. Things are definitely much cooler in the case. But I am still shutting down unexpectantly.

This generally happens when I try to view a video link with game up, but has recently started happening when Grooveshark is running in the BG. I'm not sure if this is caused by Groovesharks ads (they have little video pops on window that sometime go active),or something else.

I paid close attn to the vid card when resetting and I blew the case free od dust when I added new PS. My current fear is the Vid card has somehow been damaged by running with an insufficent PS, but Im just guessing here.

    HI

Sorry for not replying earlier, noticed a few posts, didnt know they where all yours!

I think temps could be your issue on the GPU in the main but CPU are on the higher end also, so a few questions that may jog my mind into a thought.

    1. Is the issue only in this game or high end games and not happening in general PC usage?
    2. Do you get any graphical anomalies in the games before a crash, weird colours or pixelation on screen etc?
    3. If you have had crashes, are these BSOD and if so whats the error code?
3a. Check for general errors after a crash in Event Viewer and check Application and System at the timestamp (plus or minus a few mins) of the crash for any red warning and if one please post.

Oh yeah you do have bugger all space in that case, what are the directions of the fans in blowing air and where they are located I know there is a spare (which you may have used) space in the back under the PSU?

Thank you for replying so sorry I glutted the thread with all those posts kept forgetting to upload stuff that might have been helpful.

    1. Is the issue only in this game or high end games and not happening in general PC usage?
Only when playing games, usually SWTOR with something running in the background. Usually a video, but grooveshark seems to be causing it now as well.

    2. Do you get any graphical anomalies in the games before a crash, weird colours or pixelation on screen etc?
No anomolies or BSOD. It just shuts down completely. I do get a BSOD if I try to use the upper video port on my video card. Not sure why that is but I avoid it like the plague.

    3. If you have had crashes, are these BSOD and if so whats the error code?
    No BSOD

3a. Check for general errors after a crash in Event Viewer and check Application and System at the timestamp (plus or minus a few mins) of the crash for any red warning and if one please post.

The fan on the new PS blows down, as does the slot fan that I added. There is one fan on the bottom that blows air out the back of the pc and the fan that is on the cpu

    Hi

Sadly Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power errors are generic and can lead to any hardware device or driver, so are all your device drivers for the motherboard from the motherboard maker and not from a "driver finder" app?

One that crops up alot is Audio driver, if not from the motherboard maker and a generic one thats found on the internet can cause errors like this.

If you use this app, http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/bluescreenview.html whats the last Blue Screen error if finds if any?

Thank you for your time and patience. I really appreciate it your help.

ok I rant the Blue screen viewer and I posted the results.
As I mentioned I do get blue screen shut downs when I try to use the upper port of my video card. Not sure why that is though. After I replaced the power supply I had my screen plugged into the upper port on the card which I think is what cause the bsod's.

    Hi

The BSOD source is atikmdag.sys which links to your graphics card, not ATi drivers add all sorts of add-ons and some do cause issues with Windows at times, not on everyone's PC, its a random thing,

So what I would do is to fully uninstall the graphics driver and this is a good app HERE (do check for any other graphic drivers that maybe present, like onboard ones and remove them also) and then Run CCleaner and its cleaner and Registry Tool (run the registry one until nothing is listed) then Download the latest ATi driver for your model HERE but do a custom install and only install the display driver, don't add the Catalyst Control Centre, 3D options etc, what we want is the bare bones graphic driver only.

    Reboot and test.

ok I uninstalled the ATI suite and reinstalled the driver only. Im still having the same problem Do you think that switching to a larger case with more fans and better sirflow would help?

Again the pc just shuts down without warning and no bsod.

    Conclusion
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. A third party driver has been identified to be causing system crashes on your computer. It is strongly suggested that you check for updates for these drivers on their company websites. Click on the links below to search with Google for updates for these drivers:

atikmpag.sys (AMD multi-vendor Miniport Driver, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.)

If no updates for these drivers are available, try searching with Google on the names of these drivers in combination the errors that have been reported for these drivers and include the brand and model name of your computer as well in the query. This often yields interesting results from discussions from users who have been experiencing similar problems.

Read the topic general suggestions for troubleshooting system crashes for more information.

Note that it's not always possible to state with certainty whether a reported driver is responsible for crashing your system or that the root cause is in another module. Nonetheless it's suggested you look for updates for the products that these drivers belong to and regularly visit Windows update or enable automatic updates for Windows. In case a piece of malfunctioning hardware is causing trouble, a search with Google on the bug check errors together with the model name and brand of your computer may help you investigate this further.

After tunning who crashed this I ran Driver Fusion. It said that my driver was up to date. BUT it also says that I am missing two backup drivers. I allowed the program to run the fix.

Thank you guys for helping me :)

I uninstalled the Catalys suite and reinstalled just the driver. Or at least I think I did. I went through control panel. Then I ran cc registry cleaner before reinstalling just the driver.

I was also told to remove any other onboard drivers. I did not see any but then as a rule I avoid bothering my drivers if possible so I may have missed something.

Again, all the help is greatly appreciated.

    Okay
I tried uninstalling my drivers again. This time I used DDU and I ran it for both AMD and Nvidia drivers. After I used CCleaner. This time when the pc restarted the graphics were the large icons that I had expected to see the first time I tried to uninstall my driver, but had not.

I then reinstalled the AMD driver only. And ran Driver fusion after. Unlike my first attempt where DF wanted to update the driver. This time it show as my having the most up to date driver.

Will be putting the old girl through her paces in the morning. But I think the problem may be licked this time.:wave

I bought this pc from a friend when he upgraded. I ask him this morning about that. At one point he had an Nvidia Graphics card on it, then he upgraded to an AMD. But I didnt know about that. Just told the driver uninstaller to remove and nvidia bits it found cause I was desperate lol figured it could hurt, right?

Si I havent had any BSOD today. But it did shut down on me when I ran SWTOR and tried to view a video in the background. It wasnt an immediate shutdown like before, but it did happen.

I was looking at my speed fan window while I did this and temps didnt seem to spike. So Im back at the original problem. Weird shut downs that I dont know how to track :(

    :)
No, but I tend to multitask and look at links sent to me via teamspeak while playing. Since I have this issue I have been avoiding doing this while playing. But on occasion I forget.

Im worried my pc is trying to tell me something important. And I dont want to kill it

Something that I remembered while reading this thread might be important as far as hardware mapping.

When I picked up my new graphics card many moons ago, I uninstalled the old ATI software/drivers and shut down the PC. I installed the new card and then installed the new drivers and software for it. From that point I had nothing but trouble. The video would freeze, it would go to random colored patterns at times, and all around nothing seemed to work right. In some of the reviews, the same symptoms were listed by others.

Before going for an RMA, I figured why not do a clean install to make sure that it's definitely the card. Lo and behold, the build has been running like clockwork ever since.

Sometimes it's just not as easy as uninstalling, dropping in hardware, and installing new drivers/software.

    Hi:)
I am unsure exactly what I need to do with the items listed? Are they things that I should delete? Or things that I should update? How do I determine whats safe to delete? Is there a forum section that I can reference?

Apologies for being clueless. And thank you again guys

Also Im running the malware checks today. So far nothing has been found.

    Thank you

Stay with the Malware team until they give you the all clear.

Once we know there's no malware interfering, you can continue here from #24 "3rd party driver list below, remove as much utility and virtual software as you can during troubleshooting (including HP software), update the remaining drivers if you can (anything older than late 2012 should be priority).".

Once we've uninstalled/updated the items there, we can press on with the 0x116 specific things :)

    Good luck!

    Hi guys
I just wanted to touch base with you and thank you for all of your help. In the end I decided to start swapping out components. Starting with the video card. And the problems that I was having seem resolved.

I was able to uninstall my drivers completely and cleanly. custom install the Catalyst suite and get myself up and running without a hitch. All thanks to the wonder advice and guidance that I received from all of you!

You guys really are amazing and appreciated. Top notch tech help just because you want to help others. Thanks you all.

I will try not to break anything else :)
