Hi, I'm not sure if this belongs here. My laptop has been acting very strange lately (month or so) and it seems to have a mind of its own because it shuts down for no reason (I can be working in Word, playing a game, or browsing the Net)..How can I go about troubleshooting this?

Check basics... Batteries, Cables blah blah.. BIOS that there's no APM on for automatic shutdowns or devices.

if all are okay.. Check Windows APM..>
in desktop (Right click) > Screensaver > Power... > add there 'always on' option on the slider bar just for test...

If this doesn't get the laptop going.. Try check the Disk 'chkdsk C: /F' (Since sometimes when there's hard problem in the harddrive and it accesses some broken file which is broken by File System if clean cuts the power there with out even bluescreen.

and if all the shait fails.. go to Control Panel > device manager System Devices > remove Windows Automatic Power Management driver and boot up and test again.

Well there is more, but since situation soudns unclear can't 'attack' any specific issue. I think most common would eb BIOS issues of Laptops. But since don't know even the model it's hard to say.
