Hello, I have recently got my computer cleaned with the help of these support forums. I am virus and spyware free. I just upgraded my computer to 2.5 GB of ram as well, and I fixed my floppy drive. The cable was installed upside down. Everything seems to be in order now, but my computer will just freeze now. I never turn it off, and I have never had this problem before. Is there something I can do? I doubt it's because I don't turn off my comp, because I have never had this problem before, and it's been on for like 3 months at a time before. Could this possibly be a power supply problem? It seems to happen when I turn on other electronic stuff in my room. I do have a surge protector. Sometimes it will freeze on startup as well, and I will have to restart. Is there a problem with windows XP?
I built my comp myself, so feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Well it could be a number of things, but list the specs of your computer. You said you just got it clean so you mean viruses and spyware not the inside othe computer itself. It could be one of you old friends(viruses) coruppted some of your files. let's start with the hardware part and then move on to the software. Do you know the temps of you processor.?

Temps for computer are 61 degrees celsius for the prosessor and 32 degrees celsius for my system temp.
Parts I have for my computer are as follows.
    2.5 GB corsair ram
    wireless logitech mouse
Xasser RF wireless keyboard by Thermaltake
    Alien case
    Pioneer DVD burner
    Lite on DVD drive
AMD athalon processor (don't remember the exact model but I seem to remember it being the 32, and not the 64, was the second best one I could have gotton on the market as of last year)
    GA7N400Pro2 motherboard by Gigabyte
    Thermaltake Beetle processor cooler
    Manhattan 500W power supply
    M-Audio Firewire 410 soundcard
ViewSonic E90fb monitor (2 of em)
    some cheap wireless internet card
ATI All in wonder 9600 video card
    6 case fans
    all lighted cables
    sony floppy drive
    120 SATA seagate HD (Storage)
80 Western Digital HD (operating system)
Hope this is enough info, If I left out anything let me know.
Just a little extra info. When my comp freezes, my HD light is solid orange.
Don't know if this is common or not.
    Thank you

Well i have never heard of your power supply, low quality power supplies can cause many problems. Is that processor temp just when your computer has been sitting for awhile or while it has been running programs. That temp seems to be on the high side, you can download this program to test your Western digital hard drive so we can elminate it as a problem. Also if your processor is at that temp when the computer is Idle you will want to reseat your heatsink on your processor. |MG| Free Download - Western Digital DLG Diagnostics 1.1

Did you do a repair of windows xp after you got rid of the viruses and spyware.

I don't think the guy would have sold me a cheap power supply. He knows I only buy the best quality products for my computer. Or at least the best I can afford. You would think he would try and take advantage of that and sell me something more expensive. But he is a friend, and says that the supply is reliable. I did the diagnostic test. and here are the results. They are greek to me. Check em out, they are attatched.

I do not think that is your test result it is just an explanation on how to run the test, and what the error codes are to look for, well if he said itis a good supply and you trust him not to worry just never heard of that brand before.

how do I view my test result then? The program told me to insert a disk, and that was it. There were two txt files on the disk when it was done. and 3 other files
    they were titled DLGDIAG.EXE DLGDIAG.TXT DLGICE.TXT IMBIO.COM and IBMDOS.COM
do you need any of these? or are they of any use? how will I know if my HD needs replaced or formatted?

I've had the new memory in, and it has frozen, and I've had the old memory in and it has frozen. I've tried many combinations of the ram, and I believe that this problem lies elsewhere. It's not even like this happens all the time either. I can never tell when it is going to freeze up on me. it just happens at a random time. I had a 420W power supply and when I installed the new CPU fan (thermaltake beetle) the comp wouldn't start up. I assumed that I wasn't getting enough power, so I upgraded to 500W. Then when I got home, I plugged in my sound card, and my monitors, and my printer, my wireless keyboard and mouse and was fine for a while, but then it started freezing up. could it be that I need more power?

Well a 500 watt power supply should be more than enogh for your specs, but some power supplies have different ratings on the 12v line 3v line and 5 v line . On the side of your power supply or if you still have the box they should be listed post them so we can see what they are. You are looking for resulst in amps like 20a on 12v 30a on 3v just an example
