pc sounds bogged down

I am new to computer and also to forums, but anyway, here goes. Whenever I open my browser or a program,and sometimes just when it is idle, my pc makes a sound like its being bogged down. It will start whenever I launch the program,then it will let up after it is finished loading. It the pc is idle, it will do it intermittently for about 5 seconds at time and then let up. My pc is less than a year old ! I did discover recently that some of my device drivers are not up to date.(I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.) Also, I did full scans with up to date anti-virus software (mcafee) and ant-spyware software (spyware doctor & adaware se personal) but they came up clear. My pc doesn't seem to be any slower, it just sounds lugged down whenever I run a program. What could be causing this and what can I do to fix it ? Thanks in advance for your time and assistance. Please excuse my first time thread here being so long. Ugghh,newbies ! (lol)

 

If you consider that your computer doesn't appear to be running any slower than usual, and all of your spy ware and virus tests came up negative, I would have to say that perhaps you simply have a noisy hard drive, and this may be an indication of a hard drive that may be on its way out. I would suggest that your very first course of action be to back up all of your data, just incase. Your second step might be to test your computer with another hard drive to see if you can still hear the "noise". If not, then you know it's the hard drive, if so, then perhaps it's your fan making that noise. Intermittently, the fan turns on to cool the computer, and sometimes when a lot of dust gets into the fan it often makes strange noises. Those are just two of many possibilities, but may be the first ones you should check.
