Hi - I started a similar thread a few days ago and tried to respond to some of the suggestions, but I kept getting the message that I wasn't signed in (I was).....hope this works.....

    *******************************************

Hi again and thanks for the suggestions.

I guess I should have been more specific in my original post - I use Norton Antivirus (NAV) and PestPatrol. They are always up-to-date with current defs etc and I scan on a regular at-least-weekly basis. No ugly buglies found. Maintenance (i.e. disc cleanup, defrag, etc) is also done regularly and at a similar frequency.

Windows XP is set to update automatically as well and I usually don't leave the "updates ready to install" icon blinking at me for more than an hour or so, lol!!

When I run Task Manager, the only programs running are what I have open at the time, i.e. Outlook, Internet Explorer (and Rogers idiotic SHS.exe - SelfHealingSoftware) and perhaps Word or WordPerfect.

As mentioned, the slowdown seems in part related to some indiscriminate clicking by my boyfriend and one thing that I haven't been able to get rid of is something that seems to want to redirect me to a different homepage. When I open IE, instead of going directly to my Rogers homepage, it starts off with a URL which begins "http://www.prosearching.com......." with the words passthrough or redirect or something later in the string. It eventually does go to Rogers though after a minute or so.

There has been an even further slowdown though since I installed Rogers new software that is supposed to enhance (hahahahahahahaha) the Rogers Yahoo experience.......(don't get me started).

I've done about three System Restores in as many weeks and it doesn't seem to have made a difference.

If sending a Hijack This log is the next most logical step, pretty please can someone remind me how to do that? I have the icon on my desktop (I think....). I also don't remember how to move a thread from one forum to another. If it's time to do that, please feel free :) :)

Thanks again....I really, really appreciate it.

    Janet

You sure seem to have a couple of spyware bugs still in there. Since you got browser hijacked (redirected to another start page) I'm pretty sure that's the situation. Use HijackThis and run a system scan, then copy/paste your log into the spyware section in this forum, if you're really nice someone'll maybe take a look at it and help you out.

    Sure can :)

Make sure your running 1.98 of Hijack This.

    Open Hijack This!

    Press scan

When finished, press Save Log (its now where the scan button was)

Save the log file, open it in notepad or your text editor.

Highlight everything with your mouse, then select Edit, Copy. To highlight all, start with the mouse in the upper left corner, press and hold the left mouse key, the drag the mouse to the lower right corner and release the left mouse button.

Start a new thread and hit ctrl v at the same time and that should paste your log file into the thread :)

    Thanks, folks :)

I just posted the log over in Spyware forum, only to check my mail and see your post, Major, indicating that I should be sure I'm using v1.98. I had v1.74 (I think). DOH! Can we start with what I posted, or should I do another log using v1.98?

    Thanks,
    Janet
