PC switched itself off, and now it's dead; won't come back on

    Hey guys,

I was just browsing the web and listening to some music on my PC when it gave me a task-bar error about a USB drive not working correctly (Despite nothing being in them at the time other than my mouse), and instantly switched itself off.

I tried to turn it back on, nothing. I turned the PSU on/off, tried replugging the plugs, switching the socket on/off, still nothing.

I've just taken the side off the PC and hoovered out the PSU and then tried plugging it in and turning it on again. Nothing.

So I took it upstairs to my brothers room and tried connecting it to his PSU plug; nothing.

Has my PSU just fried at random? If so, what're the chances that it just fried the rest of my components via a power surge in the process? (The plug it was plugged into was a surge protector.. If that makes any difference)

    Please help = /

if you feel comfortable working inside your computer, then there are a fewthings to try...
first, unplug your computer and hold the power button down for a few seconds (on some computers, this may discharge any charge remaining)
i would disconnect cables to your hard drive(s) and disc drive(s) and try to power up the computer to see what you get...if you get nothing, you should probably take out any memory sticks, and try to power up again...(try googling the method, it's pretty simple) if you get any response, anything at all, then you can try to narrow it down further, by plugging back in the cables to the drives one at a time until you find out which one is the culprit, or with the ram, putting one stick in at a time (if you have more than one). I have been a little vague with procedures, so if you're not sure, please ask...

I've had that problem before. What I had to do is unplug the computer. If you have a battery backup unplug it at that point. Plug it back in after a minute, then hold the start button in for a good 8 seconds, release it and push it in again. Good luck
