PC switches off randomly

Hi there,
Recently my pc has started switching itself off randomly and sometimes when I press the on button nothing happens. I suspect it is my power supply so i opened up the pc and looked inside and couldnt see any obvious problems. Then I looked at the back of the PSU and noticed some white gunk coming out from somewhere dripping down next to the bronze colour coils. I have attached a picture of this. Any ideas what would cause this? Should I just send it back the manufacturer?

My build is;
Ga z77m dh3, i5350k, gtx970 asus strix, rm750, kingston blue hyperx 8gig, Seidon 240m water cooler

 

I see white in your pic, but I can't determine what it is. If you see white gunk oozing, it could be that a capacitor has exploded. In this case, if you have warranty, cash in on it, or else replace the PSU.

To determine further, you would have to open the PSU and look for a fat capacitor. If it is under warranty, just take it in as opening it could void your warranty.

 

Sorry, My bad! Wasn't thinking that all the way through.

It can be done safely though, as long as it is unplugged and left to stand for about half hour to allow capacitors to discharge... but again... not for everyone.

 

The white goo may not be really dripping? I've seen many boards with what appeared to be white caulk or paste around coils and capacitors maybe to hold in place during manufacturing? It is usually already set up and not dripping. One of the first troubleshooting techniques I was taught was look , listen and smell. So I did see this 'paste' many times. If in warranty ask for a fix.
