    Hello All,
Upon boot up I have Invalid Boot.ini error message, and will try the suggestion here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330184

But I also wondered, if having bits of old software still in the program files folder will slow the PC down, or have any ill effects?

I have lots of SQM files on my c drive as well are these normal?

    Thank you

That should work for the Invalid boot error ( MS site)

SQM files are associated with either windows live or possibly msn messenger and are of no consequence and may be deleted.

and to prevent them from littering up your HD you need to turn off the option to be part of the customer improvement program.

Open up your Windows Live Messenger IM program
    Go to:

    • Tools
    • Options
    • General Tab
    • and uncheck the option to be a part of the "quality improvement program"

Thank you Kestrel13! , the boot.ini error has gone.
And now the SQM files are gone
Hopefully this should help with the freezing issue
