My Mom recently passed, so I'm getting into the memories and pictures. When I import photos to our new iMac, taken from my Windows PC using a flash drive, the photos in iPhoto are dated as the date last modified on PC instead of date picture taken. On the iMac after import, the date pic taken is now changed to date last modified on PC. On the PC, thankfully, my original pic files retain the correct date pic taken. I've deleted the last import, and am wondering how to go about getting the pics to the new iMac with the correct pic taken dates. Thankful for any thoughts. Mark.

Hey wmarkj first off sorry about your loss. I know pictures are key and I have loads of old 1800/1900 pics of family that I do not wish to loose so store them on PC and online.

Knowing as limited as I do the MAC file format you are stuck with the copied date of images over the actual taken date, which is what I think you want saved with the images.

I have looked at a few tools that may help but they are all paid apps like Adobe Lightroom, etc

You could use http://picasa.google.com/ as its free and OS free also so mac and windows are supported, this may keep your date tags ok.
