Hi ,I am trying to hook my Acer Aspire 5517 laptop to my 42inch Samsung plasma TV{ It is 2 years old} so that I can watch movies from Net Flicks on it.

On my laptop there is only a blue female plug in like where another monitor would plug in.
There is also a female one on the tv.

Will this work and carry sound also??

VGA transmitted to a plasma isn't going to look very good. What inputs do you have on the TV? You'd have to find a cable that has VGA on one end and one of your TV inputs on the other.

My solution was to buy a networked blu ray player. I have a sony with wireless built in (make sure it's built in and not just network "ready" or you'll have to buy another part) and stream netflix and hula to a 36" plasma. The picture is crisp and I'm loving the 15 second commercials for network shows! Hour long shows in 41 minutes with some oddly placed but very fast commercials is spoiling me.
