I recently got a low disk space message from windows vista. I had only a couple of gigabytes of free space (out of 256). I tracked the problem to the following directory (e.g.) Users\"me"\AppData\Virtual Store\ProgramData\PCTools\PCTools Antivirus\Temp.
I uninstalled PC Tools but this directory and others were not removed. I tried RevoUninstaller but it thinks PC Tools Antivirus is gone.
Attempts to delete these files have choked my processor, recycle bin, and led to minimal progress.
I would appreciate help from anyone who understands this issue.
Currently, I'm trying to use "Eraser" to remove the largest directory. I'm up to 3% in the last 1/2 hour.
    Thanks. irt:

The reason why the uninstall didn't remove all files is because some files may have been running at the time of uninstall this is why they have not been removed but after going through the uninstaller then you should be able to delete the PCTAV folder after a reboot.

If you are unable to delete the PCTAV folder, you may need to go in safe mode to delete the folder.

    Or try unlocker:

Yeah, try deleting it in safe mode, or even boot to the Recovery Console and delete it from there. One of my favorite methods of deleting stubborn files/folders is via PE. PE stands for Preinstallation Environment, and is well known as 'Barts PE'. An excellent 'pre-built' PECD is the Ultimate Boot CD For Windows, more commonly known as the "UBCD4Win". You boot to it, and it's basically like running Windows entirely from a CD and/or system RAM so your hard drive is totally accessible w/o any restrictions. Very handy for removing stubborn files and malware!!!

Thanks gents. I have recovered much of my disk space by deleting files in Safe Mode. However, very many PC Tools and PCTAV directories remain. I've been unable to delete them for various reasons, including "file names to long for system" and others. Eraser has no effect, and the "Unlocker" tool does not work either. I have installed the UBCD, but get an error message when I try to "build" the "source". The method of using the UBCD is not transparent, so I guess I need to do some reading about that first. Perhaps you could advise me "dlb"? I have since reinstalled PCTAV. I was wondering if an uninstall from RevoUninstaller might get rid of some of those stubborn directories. I still have no idea how the problem arose in the first place.
