I'm running Vista and it seems to be sluggish, so I downloaded two programs.

AVG PC tune up 2011 (Demo for 24 hours) and Advanced System Care 3 (freeware)from IObit.

I haven't done much of this stuff and I was wondering if I had anything to worry about. Am I going to break my computer, or are they so simple even I could work them out?

    Anyone tried them?(I suppose so...)

    Which one is best? Simplest?

    Thanks all...

Edit> I should add that I use AVG antivirus free and Spyware Blaster with my Windows Firewall on my PC.

Hiya there Mr Pewty, I use ASC3 myself from time to time and find it quite good. I also use it conjuction with a few other programs, I probably wouldn't recommend the AVG program ... but I would recommend CCleaner, and Smart Defrag, made by the same people as ASC3, Iobit.

If you wanted to go into the whole thing in depth I've got an extensive guide here

It's from last year and was made for Vista, but I took a quick skim over it and it's all still applicable, btw when using ASC3, don't use their registry cleaner, ONLY use CCleaners.

Golden rule - if you intend doing something to your system of which you have no previous experience or knowledge then first install an imaging system and use it. It guarantees that should anything untoward happen you will be able to revert to your previous state in under half an hour.

These days this capability is available for free, so search MG for Easeus Todo Backup or Macrium Reflect. Both are proven programs.

Thanks, people. Invaluable advice, which I intend to take.
