Hi, I was told to post this here, in another part of the problem, thanks for your help :)

My PC turns itself off at times, and once even shut itself down properly :S Also starting up, it ALWAYS acts as if the pc hasn't been shut down, and gives the safe mode option. Plus NOD32 doesn't start up when I log in anymore. I have to manually start it.

My specs are AMD Athlon 2100, 1.74 GHz, 768 MB of RAM and I'm using Win XP 2002 version 2 (which now starts up telling me I have an illegal version - it had never done that before)

In the past, we've had to change the power supply I think, we had problems with it stinking of leather and shutting down every 20 mins.

Do you know if it is a legit version? The old Blaster worm caused that, and if your not up to date on service packs, then your open to it.

If you know its legit, make sure you validate and update your XP, otherwise, you will need to buy a copy.

I'm not sure. I'm sorry. It's the family PC. My mum had it made by a friend, and she doesn't tend to remember important things about it.

How do I know if it is the blaster worm?

if you recently downloaded the latest security update there was a part of it that had to do with checking if your windows copy was authentic. that could be one reason why it now says the copy is no longer valid.

my computer shuts itself down sometimes too- once in a while it does it legitimately, but not often...it overheats because we had to fiddle with the power supply. one of my friends' computer was shutting down from overheating because the fan quit and it was shutting down to avoid frying something important.

you can scan for the blaster worm with most virus scan software, but if you dont know if yours will catch it, you can download one for free from the anti-virus list on majorgeeks.com - i prefer avast and there is a free home version.

    good luck!
