PC Turns off during bootup?

Brand new computer with i7 processor, two 260GTX SLIed, 12 gigs of ram, X58 3x SLI motherboard, etc.... but it cannot stay on o_O.

Some things I realized are that when I leave the computer off for a long period of time it will manage to stay on longer but still not long enough to edit any anything in bios or install an OS. Any ideas on what may be causing the problem? I have tried using two different outlets and surge protectors already. Another thing I noticed is that it takes about 10 seconds before I hear a beep and anything actually shows up on the monitor, is this normal?

ok so after leaving it off for an extended period of time there is enough time to entire bios and mess around for a little bit before it turns off abruptly. I have also tried removing the ram sticks down to 1 so it is not the ram causing the problem. I also removed the power to the graphics cards to see if it is a gpu issue or if the graphics cards take too much power and have come to the conclusion it is not.

    any ideas?

One more thing I would like to add is that the time it takes for the computer to self-turn off is directly correlated to how long I wait till after it turns off. For example I waited about 10 minutes and I got maybe 2 or 3 minutes before it would turn off but I tried turning it on directly after it self-turned off and I got maybe 2 seconds before it turned itself off

Sounds like a power supply or heat issue to me.

How many watts is the power supply?

If you can get into the bios in time what is your CPU temp? Also are you using the stock cpu cooler?

I think your PSU is enough.

ill check it in a few out right now. yes I am using a stock cpu cooler. would it be heating up so fast it turns off in a matter of minutes tho?

IF your stock heat-sink is seated incorrectly yes it can. When you touch the heatsink is is warm or ice cold?

CPU is at a constant 85 degrees with fan speeds of 1500-1700rpm. i did some research on problems with the X85 mobo and seems like there is a common problem involving the VRAM memory gap. is it possible this may be the cause? im trying to change it to 2gigs but have not been able to yet since its turning off on me

    85F or C?

If 85C then that's way to hot. 85F is fine for CPU temp.

C i believe. whatever it is in the PC Health menu (pretty sure its C). let me double check though

I changed the memory low gap to 2gigs but still nothing

I'm sure that's the problem. Stock heat-sink pins are a push pins are a pain. Read the manual and make sure all 4 pins click when installing. I would try installing it like this

    1 2
    3 4

Push in clips 1 and 4 then push in 2 and 3 or vice versa. Make sure you didn't apply to much paste.

fixed. either not enough thermal paste or the heatsink wasnt properly mounted. thanks!
