    My problem is thus:

When the power button is pressed, everything will turn on, and then immediately kill itself. I unplug everything PSU related, then replug it in, hit the power switch on the PSU, then the button on front. All fans and lights come on for about 1/2 second it goes KZZZT then fries. I can redo this process over and over with the same result.

    What i have:
A quad core processor, a foxconn motherboard, no video card plugged in. 4 GB of ram that i rubbed an eraser on. A big and awesome aftermarket fan for my processor, and plenty of fans. Most importantly i have a 850w PSU.

    What i have tried:
Unplugging various internal components and redoing the plug in process.
Unplugged everything but processor and ram then used the stock 450w PSU instead.

I have no clue what the problem is. Ive built PC's before. Several. For some reason this rig just wont go.

Are you getting any BIOS beeps at all? Have you removed the CMOS battery for 30secs and replaced? Are there any lights on your mobo?

No beeps at all. No time.

Havent tried removing the battery. Not 100% sure how.

No lights on my mobo but lights on the internal fans and yes they turn on for the 1 second.

Can you link the make and model of your mobo and then we will find pics to show you the CMOS battery and how to remove and or replace.

Sounds like something is tripping the overload protection in the PSU.

    How old is that mobo?

What do the capacitors look like?

    Are they bulging?

If its the little watch battery lookin deal, i just got it out. Do i leave my pc unplugged for 30 secs or plug it in with no battery for 30 secs.

That is the one and if the system isn't keeping time that indicates it is flat.

Im not sure how the system is doing i havent gotten it to boot yet because its only on for a split second.

The motherboard is two days old. All my parts are.

Do you have all the proper power connections made?

Do you have a P4 and a +4 plug for the CPU (12v), and are you using the P4 plug?

Yes i have the correct cords running to my motherboard and my CPU.

Do you hear an audible noise from both PSUs?

When Your Computer Turns on and then Immediately Off

This can often indicate an overheating problem - with today's modern CPUs running so fast, any problem in the cooling system can cause them to overheat and shut off quickly.
Verify Your Heatsink / Fan installation

The CPU fan or heatsink must be connected exactly according to the manual. (sometimes it's difficult to push it down enough so that it'll be tight enough against the CPU for the heat to transfer)

Verify that the Heatsink / Fan Turns on

Did you plug the fan into the power connector? Is the fan running smoothly or rattling?

Check if the CPU is being detected at the wrong speed.

If your CPU is being detected incorrectly at the wrong speed, it will turn itself off because it will overheat or have other issues. This can be a result of overclocking settings being set wrong.

I think this is the problem. How do i check overclocking settings?

First of all, you would either need to access the BIOS, or run OC software on a Windows platform.

Chances are, you haven't overclocked anything yet. You haven't even got this baby powered long enough to get into BIOS setup. Right?

If this baby is a new build, and you used all the proper things like thermal paste, or a thermal patch, there should be no issue as long as your system and CPU fan are recognized, and functioning properly.

The fans are all hooked up correctly as well?

Have you tried just running only the CPU fan?

Have you read the reviews on your mobo at the site you purchased it from, or other sites?

    Has anyone received one DOA?

For reference, if you have an AM2+, or AM3 CPU, the mobo and CPU MUST MATCH, or you will destroy the CPU.

    Havent gotten to BIOS nope.
Used thermal paste and have a heatsink fan.
    Fans hooked up correctly.

Have NOT tried running only the fan will do tomorrow and then get back to you. With more specs as well.

Got my mobo from a local tech shop. Guy said it was compatable, and he does constant builds/repairs. AKA i trust the input to be reliable.

Im at work so cant show the exact specs yet but i thought of something.

My processor is really nice and new. Intel Quad Core2 Q8200. And my mobo is new too but it only has a 4-pin plug for power to the PCU. Could it be i need the 8-pin plug to run a processor of that caliber? My powersource has an 8-pin, but i only use the one half side, so should i just get a new mobo? Its a Foxconn mini board. Fits in my tower.

    Its a Foxconn G31MXP-K.

    Says supports Intel 45nm processors.

  17. Weaksaucemaster

If i unplug the power to my processor everything else works fine.

okay i could get it to boot menu when using a 115V 28A power supply, it would NOT work with a 230V 40A PSU or with my 850W PSU.

The comp stats told me my cpu was at 35c and my cpu fan/heatsink was running plenty fast enough.

WHAT COULD ALL OF THIS POSSIBLY MEAN!?!?!?
