PC very slow after upgrade to XP Pro

    Hi there,

    After upgrading a 98 system to XP Pro it's incredibly slow. For example saving an office document, selecting the save location takes about 2 minutes, eventually comes up. Opening explorer is quick but displaying all the folders takes about 4 minutes!! Can anyone help, searched the KB but the links there are useless.

    Have you scanned for possible Spyware/Virus infections?

    Already did virus & spyware scan before the upgrade. Also, it's not a slow pc (Celeron 1.7GHZ). Slow for an office machine that is!

    Please do not reccomend someone format and do a clean install, unless its the last remaining option.

    To the original poster:

    How much ram do you have? How much is being used? (Check Task Manager, ctrl-alt-del).
    Does the slowness happen in Safe Mode?

    For the saving issue, do you use mapped network drives?
