pc will lock up during game & forced to restart

    im having a problem playing my old dirt track sprint cars game. now when i play it, eventually it will freeze on me and i have to restart my pc. it isnt the rom im assuming because it does it in different spots each time im playing. anyone know what the deal is.

    Okay to start with download, install and run EVEREST:

    You may both be experiencing overheating problems. Basically gaming pushes PCs' to utilise most of the hardware and resources and can cause them to heat up or even overheat. Within the BIOS set-up there is normally a defined "Critical Temp" and if your PC hits that it will automatically shutdown, basically as a self-preservation technique so you dont permanently fry any off the hardware.

    If you install EVEREST you can open this before you start playing then expand Computer and click on Sensor, this will display all of the systems on-board sensors, including CPU Temp. Now play the game for a little while then pause it and hit your Windows key (to get to Desktop) and make a note of the CPU Temp and then post back. Start there.
