    Hello

Here is what happened before my PC went down.

First, it was infected with WIN32/AdwareVirtumonde / WIN32/PrivacyRemoverM64

The PC was simply locked with this virus.

I tried to boot in Safe Mode and was successful in logging in as an Administrator with the networking feature turned on.

After I could log on to the internet, I tried to download Adaware along with several other anti-virus programs. It would not allow me to install these programs except one called the Evidence Eliminator on a 30 day trial.

After this program went through its routine cleanup that took over an hour, the PC shut down and came back up.

Now what happens is that I can get to the window where you get to select the Safe Mode etc..

When I select the Safe Mode and click ok, I see another window pop up to confirm Safe Mode (routine). When I click the Enter, nothing happens and the PC beeps.

On the other hand, if I do not hit the F8 and let it try to boot on its own, the HP logo will show up for a couple of seconds and then the screen goes black with the cursor blinking for about 5 seconds and then nothing happens.

I can access the set up window when I hit F1 but see no use to change any settings because they seem fine.

I am stumped with this problem and cannot move ahead. I could take the HD out and set it as a slave on my other PC. But then what??

    Thank you kindly

If you have no important document to save the I would format and reinstall

    Thank you for the reply.

Yes I do have imp docs on it and plus it will not do anything when I try to boot from Safe Mode anyway. So how do I access the HD.

Thank you for the quick response.
There are quite a few versions on the link.
    Should I download UBCD4WinV320.exe ??

I'm not sure the ultimate boot CD will work for you because it has to be built. How To. [All the download links are for the same software v320]

What OS are you on and do you have a CD?

    *********
The main problem with no error message to go on is we don't know where to start. Do you get a choice of Last known Good Configuration? EE should not of caused any real damage so I'm trying to figure out how to get safe mode back working.

I am on Win XP Pro and yes I do have two CD players in there
The file is 239 MB and I have it on my other PC ready to be burned.

On that note, what burning software should I use?
    Thank you kindly

The UBCD.exe file is a program to create a bootable CD. You need the program, a running Windows OS and a Windows Installation CD. It takes various files of the installation CD couples it with programs contained in the UBCD and writes a new Boot CD.

Some swear by it but I've never had any luck with it. Anyway the problem is once you get the bootable CD we have to know what needs to be fixed.

If you want to go with the UBCD you'll have to wait for someone else for help with that.

I would ask if you tried Last Known Good Configuration and if you have an XP PRO installation disc.

I downloaded the UBCD4WIN file and burned it on a blank CD.
The question I have is that once I burn it on a CD, do I need to open all the files and then copy them on a CD??
All I see is one folder on the CD right now with a Blue icon. Is this normal??

When I insert this CD, and reboot the PC, what is it supposed to do??

I cannot see it opening any program if that is what it is supposed to do. Does it boot automatically or do I need to do something to get into the start up mode.

    Thank you

Ok this is how far I got with the HD.

I set it up as a slave on my PC and scanned it to remove all the infections. Now when I run the UBCD4WIN and extract it to the slave, or even the PC that is normal, I get the following message.

    E:\UBCD4WIN\Plugin\Antispyware\Spybot\TeaTimer.exe
An error ocured while trying to copy a file
    Source File is corrupt.

    Click retry to try again.

When I try to do this, it will not allow me to extract the files. Therefore, it tells me that the source file is corrupt?? I will try to re-download the file and see if this helps.

The good part is that I am able to see the HD now via a Slave and extract the files I need. Trying to avoid the format since this may not be a serious problem now. So the UBCD4WIN should work.

    thank you

Teatimer is not an important part of Spybot. If you have an option to skip that file go ahead and do it.

Teatimer should NOT be installed. If you already have it installed here are instructions as to how to disable that http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=103692&highlight=Teatimer

If that does not help, then uninstall Spybot Search and Destroy, run a registry cleaner such as CCleaner, and then re-install Spybot but uncheck the Teatimer installation when the option appears on your screen.

Please start a new thread, rather than hijacking the thread of another member. Hijacking is considered bad etiquette and it also makes it difficult for the member and others to follow the advice given for the original problem if it is mixed with information pertinent to your issue :) Thanks.

I just decided to copy all the imp files to my PC and set up the HD in question as a slave. Thereafter, I did a format as a FAT 32 since it was an older drive and installed 98 and thereafter upgraded it to SE and then put in the XP Pro.

Now I will be installing all my software.

I was lucky to have accessed it via setting it up as a Slave.

The UB4win disk did not allow me to fix the problem only because of the teatimer that kept on coming up. I could not skip it. Therefore, in the end, format and re-install was the only way out.

Thank you for all the support.
