Pc will not sw on

My Pc will not sw on power light comes on and fans operate for about 2 secs
then switches off. whats wrong please help

 

It would be my guess without looking that is probably the switching circuit going out in the power supply. Try a new power supply. Have you smelled anything funny from the supply? If it a short or open you will sometimes smell the burning odor from it?? Power supplies are easy to replace, just put back same as you disasseble it. If you try a new one i would try it before you install it back to your tower. Always remember safety of course. When doing anything to your pc, Unplug the 120 AC

I think i might have to purchase a new mother board.

It was working then it decided it would playup.

Just wanted to cosign the above: this problem^^^, and noise, and "standby not working" and all kinds of things, all went away when I switched to a new power supply...

I have changed the power supply .now electrics work fine
pc will not boot up .it will not recognise any hhd (Ihave 2)
it keeps telling me to insert disk into appropriate drive.
I dont have a boot disk xp came installed.

can anyone please tell me how to boot my pc.and get it to recognise my HHD.

I have done all the regular things ie.bios, boot drive,i fitted a new power supply,ect no joy with any.
have taken it to a it repair shop .apparently its the motherboard.
anyway thank you all for your help
