I don't know if anyone can help. We have a desktop PC that was fine on Friday evening at work, but when we went to work today we found that the cleaners had switched off the mains power and all it will now do is flash the green light.

It will not switch on or off. It has no boot up at all.

The monitor works, and is simply saying "no signal" but I am getting nothing else.

I have tried plugging in to different electric sockets, and have changed the main electric lead.

Any ideas, before I start taking the whole thing apart - or throw it in the bin!

    Any help appreciated.

Hmm, do you get any sign of life at all? Like beeps and hard drives spinning up etc

Just the green light vaguely flashing on the front and the back of the PC - no spin up, no beeps nothing else at all.

probably a dead powersupply, you should try a different one and get a replacement if that is the problem.

How can I tell if it is the power supply?

if the computer does absolutely nothing, that is a good sign. you can also use a psu tester or multimeter, or youc an just swap it with a working one and see if your computer boots.

It definately sounds like the power supply to me too. About a year ago a friend of mine had the same problem. I definately not saying to do this but he would keep turning it on and off, and it would eventually work. He knew the problem, because he borrowed my power supply, and there were no problems.
Unfortunately, he bought a new AMD 3700+ , and gave his girlfriends son the old one instead of me....we both regret that one...He doesnt even like computers...thats another story.
Anyhoo, all he would get is the dimmish green light too, So I too believe its your power supply
