I have a Dell Dimension 4600 with Win XP Home and a Canon Multipass 750 (Printer, Copier, Fax, Scanner.) The Dell died recently and was brought back by a service tech. The mother board was replaced according to the tech. (Dell phone support said something else was replaced...???)
Anyway everything is running well except, except the printer and the PC will not communicate. I cannot print nor scan nor fax from the PC. I called Canon and they offered little help. When the Service Tech left he did not plug the USB cables back in for the Canon, Cable Modem, Web came or Battery Back up.
I have tried deleting the printer by going to ControlPanel>PrinterFaxes to see if the PC would recognize new hardwire (The Canon uses USB). I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Canon drivers and I have tried different USB ports. Nothing helps. The Canon worked fine before the Dell hardware problem and it still will stand alone fax and copy.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, Mike.

Mike quick question, when you plug the Canon into usb does the little tool icon popup in the system tray alerting you to new hardware being installed?

Do the other USB hardware items work ok in all USB ports?

I'm going to guess the USB drivers weren't installed when they put the new motherboard in!!! Which i'm thinking is what Halo is headed towards!!

If it is the same model of motherboard...then the drivers should be on the dell disk that came with the system!!

*Didn't mean to step on your toes here, Halo...I just seen you weren't online at the time, and thought I would help incase he came back before you did!!!!*

I make no sense of your reply. The drivers are on the hard disk. It was not replaced. The drivers were there before. I uninstalled and reinstalled them in an attempt to solve the problem. Thanks, Mike.

Roger not stepping on my toes my friend.... yes it was were I was heading ;)

Mike what we are trying to get to is are the USB drivers for the motherboard working ok, the drivers may well be on the HD, but if the Motherboard is a slightly different one to what was originally their then the OS will not always pick up the correct drivers.

what may need to be installed is the Motherboards Chipset Drivers which are a major part in allowing communication to amongst other things USB.

Do all other items of hardware that are USB work in every slot?
