pc won't run downloaded setup programs

    My PC predates 2000 (possibly) its certainly older than 2002! It Recently aquired viruses via a wi-fi connection and now wont initialise any software program without asking for a file association nor will it run any new downloaded or cd-rom installed setup program, how can sort it? PLEASE !!!!!! anyone!!!!!:cry

    I think I may have mis-communicated the problem! For example, when I want to run "skype setup" in order to install it; a dialogue box opens and it asks me waht file do I want to open with "......" then it presents me with a list of programs that have nothing to do with the program I want to install!

    The link I gave you is to fix your file association issue with exe files. Did you do it?
