I scavanged 2 500MB PC2700 memory from a computer. I was going to upgrade my "frankenstein" computer but discovered it takes PC2100.

Will there be any compatibility problems if I install them?

frankenstein computer = computer I put together entirely from scavanged parts.

your pc2700 should be able to run at pc2100 speeds
what do you have to loose (frankin puter...)

RAM, as long as the DDR is the same (DDR, DDR2, DDR3, etc.) automatically lowers clock speeds for the computer it's in. While it CAN go faster, I'm sure it will adjust itself for your scavenged computer!

I have been guilty of the opposite.
Running PC2100 in a machine that called for PC2700.
Doubled the RAM, but not quite as fast as it could have been with the correct type.
I didn't complain since it got the machine running.

In my experience, it should work just fine.

I've only seen it not once...

Exactly that! I am very fond of my creation.

    It has stopped working! :cry

I was having some problems with the first hard drive I had installed so I in stalled another. I loaded WinXP and everything seemed to work just fine. So I shut it down and installed the "new" RAM. When I turned it on, I didn't get anything on the monitor. I thought perhaps there was a compatibility problem. I tried to turn it off but it wouldn't. I had to pull the plug. I put the "old" RAM back in but the same thing happens. I noticed that the two CD/DVD drive lights don't come on and won't open. I also noticed an LED on the bottom of the hard drive is on but it does not make the characteristic sounds.

I've tried unplugging and plugging in the power to the mother board and moving the jumper for the CMOS reset with no change.

Any suggestions on how to revive the monster?
(& no I am not going to put it on my roof during a thunderstorm to get struck by lightning :p )
