If my computer uses PC3200 RAM can I use any RAM identified as PC3200?

yes, you are talking about pc3200 DDR ram. that os the most common type of RAM today so if you're buying online or getting it from a feriend or whatever it will most definitely work.

    Maybe, Probably, but it depend's
Sometimes two different brands dont work well togather.
Not all PC3200 memory support the same Timings/Voltages.

Best thing if possible, purchase more of the same exact as what ya got.

Here goes, sorry to hijack your thread ;). I recently bought two 1 gb sticks of DDR400 RAM (non branded from american vendor). I also fitted a new soundcard (chaintech AV710). I have also added a few programs for my audio needs. Now my PC randomly crashes. Sometimes it will switch itself off and reboot. Sometimes the screen will freeze and i cant do anything (Ctrl+Alt+Del do nothing), and sometimes what ever program i have running will crash and then ask me if i want to send an error report. My PC usually reboots no problem pretty quickly. I have scanned for virus and spyware and its clean. Im thinking its either the non branded RAM i have put in or maybe its a driver for my soundcard or a plugin that is causing this. I really dont want to have to fork out for new RAM, so how do i troubleshoot this. I did try and do the RAM test from microsoft but once i made the disc and rebooted from it it didnt actually do anything. Im confused....

Caramelsoul you need to start your own thread dont be afraid!:) To test your memory there are a couple of programs you can use the prefferred is this, test each individual stick of ram then move on to combinations to see if any sticks are conflicting

I second what ASUS said, its best to match the ram as much as possible as even slightly different sticks can conflict, once you have the closest match possible and it still doesnt work you have to return the ram and try another brand or sell your current ram and install all new memory which in alot of cases doesnt cost that much more than an upgrade, unless your running high performance ram,if your not sure your not :)
