A while back I somehow deleted or damaged pcdlib.dll, now when I click a photo (jpeg, bmp, etc) file I receive the "Cannot find PCDLIB.DLL. Windows needs this file to run C:\Folder\Photo" -I'm at a loss! I can preview the photo, I just can't get the system to open the photo w/o this dll. I've downloaded it (PCDLIB.DLL), but don't know where to unzip it and install so Windows can engage it and show my pictures again. I'd appreciate any help with this. PS I'm kinda new at this, which is likely how I got into this mess!:cry

    Hey,

What version of Windows are you running? I ran a search for PCDLIB.DLL on my Windows XP system and it turned up with no results.

@Rogusto - the .dll isn't part of Windows. It is from a photo app like Kodak PhotoCD file, so you want find it on your system unless you run that software!

@GreenChicago - you could uninstall the photo software application and reinstall, or:
    • Make sure no imaging software is currently running. Close all applications.
    • Search for all files named "PCDLIB.DLL" on your hard drive (or at least in the applicable program software folder of the app you are trying to use).
    • Rename each of these files to "PCDLIB.DLL.original" so you can go back to them if need be.
    • Copy the PCDLIB.DLL file you have already downloaded to your \Windows\System directory. Change the name from "PCDLIB.DLL.PATCHED" to "PCDLIB.DLL".
    • Test all your software by loading an image to make sure all is well.

I would think uninstalling the photo application with Add/Remove programs and then reinstalling it would be easier and less likely to cause new problems in the long run than tinkering around with the dll files. He may even have downloaded a version of the file for a different version of his software, for example, that may not work well or at all. So I'd suggest he identify clearly for himself what the photo application for that dll is and uninstall it properly and then reinstall.

    Good luck!
