PCI e x16 compatibility?

Hey guys, I'm upgrading my graphics card and was wondering what i should get, my mobo is: http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=ALiveNF7G-HD720p R2.0
So the only i option i have is a x16 card right? or am i wrong? are any of the newer slots like 2.0 or 2.0 x16 cards able to work on a x16 interface?

All the PCIe video cards are backwards compatible with the older PCIe slots.

uhhh i think you got that wrong... PCIE 2.0 x16 wouldnt work in an older PCI e slot...

i think you mean an older card would work in any of the newer slots..

not only that but if you have a smaller pci-e fewer lanes with a converer you can use tha card. i have an atom based machine that has pci-e x1 slot and i run okey a 5570 graphic card.

when i look near the expansion slot, its says pcie2 so i should be able to use either of these cards correct?

 

Correct. Just to make it clear a PCIe 2.0 x16 card will work in ANY PCIe slot, just not quite as fast as it would in a 2.0 x16 slot. I run a HD6850 in a Biostar MCP6P-M2+ board which has the older PCIe x16 slot with no issues.
