OK, my SSD is a small one I got a while back. Was looking on the egg to see how the prices were. I ran across this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...MATCH&Description=PX-256M8PeY&N=-1&isNodeId=1

Any of you using one of these? Looks wicked fast. Bit more than a regular SATA drive, but might be worth it. Curious about difficulty of setting one up and cloning the old SSD drive.

I need to keep up more on new technology...

Not used that one but have used an older PCiE SSD, boot times are likely to be a little slower (extra boot ROM to load/wait for), software load times will be reduced, everything will feel faster than a stock SATA SSD - watch out for heat -related throttling though, ensure you have plenty of cooling flow across it if you want the fastest large scale transfers.

I do like Plextor SSDs, I have a PX M5 series mSATA installed in this rig, probably better to dig into reviews specific to this model for the details you're looking for, if no-one here has experience of it.

Looks like I don't have the correct PCI slot. Damn you technology! :)

    Ah, not so good :)

A x8/16 wouldn't throttle it, if you have one available - but expect a higher risk of heat throttling if it's adjacent to another populated slot.

You sure? What motherboard do you have? Note you can insert a x4 PCIe card in a x8 or x16 slot. You just cannot put a x4 card in a x1 slot.

And understand this is PCIe (PCI Express) and NOT PCI. PCI and PCIe are totally different interfaces and NOT physically or electronically compatible.

Ahh, thanks Digerati. I do have PCIe x4, and 2 PCIe slots. Gets confusing after a while.

After a while? I'd say all the time if you don't stay on top it. It is bad enough when you have Microsoft using similar names like Outlook, Outlook Express, and Outlook.com for 3 totally different things. You have Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer which are totally different, then File Explorer which used to be Windows Explorer. And of course Windows Defender, an antispyware-only program for Windows 7 and before and Windows Defender, a full antimalware program for W8 and W10.

Then you have the hardware industry using similar names like PCI and PCEe for totally incompatible interfaces. And a notebook is a PC but a PC is not a notebook. To make matters worse, you have marketing weenies making up nonsensical names for devices. For example, technically, there is no such thing as a "wireless router".

And note you said you also have 2 PCIe slots. Make sure you know how many "lanes" they are (x1, x4, x8, x16).

I can look on the box/instructions to get the right 'lanes'. Went a cheaper route and got a regular SSD drive big enough to put my OS and such on.

I hear you on the hardware names. Heck, sometimes a lower number GPU is more better than a higher model number one... Wish they would simplify and somewhat standardize the names and numbers. Thanks again for the assistance.
