PCI Simple Communications Controller: causing internet d/c?

Hi, I installed some new parts about a month ago including new mobo (Asus M3A78-EM), Graphics card, pwr sply, and RAM. Beforehand, my internet connection (DSL) was working properly, but now it often disconnects randomly. Under device manager, it's showing all drivers working properly besides PCI Simple Communications Controller which is put under "Other Devices" and marked in yellow with an exclamation point. Tried to find drivers for it but cannot, and have searched the motherboard installation disk several times but to no avail. I'm wondering if that missing driver could be what's causing my disconnections (btw, sometimes it does not completely disconnect from the dsl connection but seems to "stall" and in the taskbar both "little monitors" show black instead of blue). I'm not using a router, but computer -> ethernet cable -> dsl modem -> wall jack. Any advice, tips, anything welcome! Thanks

The "PCI Simple Communications Controller" is a dial-up modem. If you were to open up the PC (unplug the power cord first, of course) and remove the modem, this device would disappear from the Device Manager, and would be a good start. If the problem continues after removing the dial-up modem, then we know the issue was not caused by it. And I seriously doubt it is. Personally, I would contact your ISP and describe the problem. I have a strong feeling the problem is with your DSL modem. However, if you have another PC (laptop or tower) hook it up to the DSL modem and see if the problem persists. Or buy an ethernet card. You can get one at any PC store for about $20. Disable the on-board ethernet in the BIOS or via the Device Manager before installing the card. If the problem still continues, then we know it's the DSL modem.
