PCI video card recomendations / Memory.

My computer takes DDR memory, does that apply to video cards too? Also I have 70$ to spend on a new one - PCI GFX card for gaming between 512 and 1GB memory 128 Bit, any suggestions?

 

Welcome aboard. It doesn't matter what your video card uses for memory as that's totally separate from system RAM. Someone else can help you with a purchase. What card do you currently have for comparison purposes.

 

nVidia GeForce FX 5200, 256mb, 128 bit.

 

Sorry left out a few details for what I want in a new card, HD supported and as said above 128bit or higher, 512 - 1GB ram, VGA & s video out. I know PCI probably don't have much for high end gaming but I'll take the best i can get, that's all i can do right??

 

I would just upgrade my socket 478 board to another socket 478, DDR ram, ATX PSU, Pci & Pci-e slots and an upgrade of maximum 1GB memory to 2 - 4GB and be able to take a bigger CPU than 2.4GHZ 400mhz bus, 3.0 Ghz 800mhz bus would be nice. But believe me if i had the money i would not be upgrading to another socket 478, but right now that's my only option. I need something i can put my old parts in. Ive looked all over the web and can't find anything socket 478 wise in my 70 dollar price range that doesn't have several bad/scary cons and isn't a..gateway, dell, or Compaq, none of which i like. Who want's to buy a board with several cons reporting DOA's and Boards going out after 6/mo -1yr? It doesn't even take that much just a few comments like that would be enough to scare me away, But like i said i don't have money like that to waste on junk or i wouldn't be looking for another socket 478 board. So either a new board or a gfx card, Ive thought about it and i believe upgrading my board would be the best thing to do right now because of the limitations with the current one. welp that's it, and thanks for any help / suggestions anyone has to offer.

 

I guess I'm not the only one who has a hard time finding a good PCI card and or 478 board. lol.

yeah i looked there, i like newegg, got my memory there. They have 1 socket 478 board but with more than a couple people reporting the board to be DOA or it not lasting any longer than 6mo to 1yr before it stops working, it really doesn't sound like something id wanna risk throwing my money away on. I would but what do i do if i get it and see that these ppl were right and the board is DOA or stops working after a year??

 

I think I'm just gonna get a Gfx card, i may be in over my head atm trying to go for a new board, I might get this one even though it's got some REALLY BAD cons but it doesn't seem that there are any on there or anywhere else PCI with the specs i want that don't have bad cons, So I'm just gonna have to pick one and hope for the best i guess. I'll just send it back and make them give me a better one if this one is Junk, LOL..
