I have been playing around with this OS for a few days. I have to say I am impressed, it all works out of the box(dvd playback and all needed codecs ie:win32 etc) for those new users who are reluctant to let windows go.

I realize this is not an OS for a developer or Linux geek(synaptic package manager is limited) ,but for the first timer this may well be the distro that tips the scale in Linux's direction.

I installed it as a dual boot on my moms pc (tried this with several distros but they all seemed to confuse her) I come back 2 days later and she tells me she has not needed windows in days. So I took the plunge and transfered all her important files over and got rid of XP completely.(no calls yet...crosses fingers)

I have installed it on 2 desktop PC and a laptop --- and have noticed a big difference in overall system performance.

    check it out and see--

Just a few thoughts with coffee

How does it run on older hardware?

I run it on one that is a 1.4 ghz pentium w/ 512 memory with standard 845 gl onboard graphics and it runs very speedy(Running compiz w/ native support---xgl seems to lock me up) (unlike mandriva((Thanks for the heads up on that one)) I know this is not ancient machinery but probably older than most peoples rigs. I started off using it on the laptop, and soon my desktop followed.

I am still playing with Arch but got alot of errors after auto preparing the hd (probably something I did -- but I am getting there:D

Cool. Because I am too lazy to look, does it have a DVD burning solution included?

I might forgo Arch and put this on a friend's machine for the sake of ease of use.

    It looks very friendly.

Yeah thats why I like it ---Everything is included (K3B,Ktorrent,devede etc) and amazingly works great ,even installed dvdshrink ,so for ease of use I give it a 2 thumbs up.

Still have yet to find any bugs, but I am sure if I keep screwing around ......rolleyes

Well, Im not pleased. They use the same Nvidia driver that the 'buntus do--and it killed my monitor.

Meh. Looks nice though. Luckily, I can fix the monitor.
