This link will bring you all up to speed on the situation up to the point i am at. This problem has evolved from hardware to a device driver issuer

    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=93156

i have a windows 98 startup disk that i can get into dos with and without it i'd have no operating system.. However i have an I/O magic external CD drive that uses PCMCIA to hook up to the laptop. Heres the problem. I want this device to actually work on startup and when i plug it in and turn the laptop on, nothing happens. I tried using this enabler.exe program and it turns on the device however its not a PCCard modem so no go and it won't stay on when i reboot. So how do i get around all this to the point where the thing will boot up like everything else without even dos. If i can get this solution i can run the Windows 98 SE installation cd and come to the final solution...... I have spent massive time researching this... and will continue to do so, but i figure the more minds on this issue, the better! PLEASE HELP ME

Glad you sorted this issue, but could you tell us what you did as it may/will help someone else at a later date, if they search the forum for similar?

well to be honest i don't know if this will help or not but i had a second external cd drive. This cd drive hooked up to a printer port instead of just a PC card slot. I downloaded a device driver for the printer port cd drive and installed it onto the c drive so it'd boot up and establish itself when dos started up. This isn't a true solution nor the final solution to the situation however its one step farther away from complete being screwedness. oh and it helps to have a second computer that works to assist in any research needed or any driver downloaded.
